On February 27, 2018, the Davidson Board of Commissioners voted to use $393,000 in park reserve funds and $131,000 from our fund balance to begin the construction of Phase 1 of the new park located along Robert Walker Drive and Bradford Park Drive at the edge of the Bailey Springs neighborhood. The plans for this new park were developed after receiving feedback at citizen input sessions and work done by the livability board. Phase 1 will include a basketball court, two tennis courts, and a playground. Work will be completed this summer. More information is available here.

The purpose of the project is to add active athletic facilities for the community as identified in the 2014 Town of Davidson Parks and Recreation Master Plan. You can view the master plan at www.townofdavidson.org/masterplan.

“We are really excited to be planning a new park with the help of our Livability Board and our citizens,” said Davidson Parks & Recreation Director Kathryn Spatz.

The Livability Board Chair Marty Metzker, consultant Gary Fankhouser, and staff presented an updated Phase I projected budget to the Board of Commissioners on August 8, 2017 for guidance: Phase I construction documents will include basketball, volleyball, and 2 tennis courts.

Current projected timeline is:

  • April:  Survey work (complete)
  • May – June:  Document development and agency review (complete)
  • July – December:  Permitting (complete)
  • January – March:  Bidding and construction contracting
