Source: Charlotte Observer From new restaurants to on-water activities, there’s always more and more to do on and around Lake Norman! What’s hot on Lake Norman besides endless sunshine? This summer will bring cycleboats and a much-anticipated restaurant; the public beach is open again and white perch are waiting to be caught. Water toys This summer will bring the launch of the first cycleboat in North Carolina. Rob Bennett, owner of My Aloha Paddle and Surf in Cornelius, plans to bring pedal-propelled cruise boats to Lake Norman in July. Fishing outlook White perch fishing should be the number one recreational fishing activity this summer on Lake Norman, according to Mac Byrum of Denver, a full time year round guide. Byrum, 77, says the perch should be plentiful, and a most appropriate attraction for families looking to enjoy a day fishing. Ramsey Creek Beach The beach in Cornelius is open for its second season with added security and more parking. Lake Norman has more miles of shoreline than the North Carolina ocean coastline, yet Ramsey Creek Beach is one of only two public beaches on the lake, the other being Lake Norman State Park 22 miles away in Troutman. Read MoreThe complete guide to Charlotte’s greenways
Source: Charlotte Agenda I work with many clients who ask about greenways, and the walkability of certain areas and neighborhoods. The Charlotte area greenway system has made so many of the neighborhoods more walking/outdoors friendly, and I’m seeing more and more people want to live closer to these beautiful walking paths. Click the link below the map for a fully interactive map of all of our area’s greenways! -Michelle Mecklenburg County’s greenway system is pretty impressive. Right now, there are over 37 miles of developed greenway throughout the county. From Huntersville to South Carolina, you’ll find beautiful paths to walk, bike and run on. It’s not just great for people, though. It’s also a way for us to preserve local plants and wildlife. But as great as the greenway system is, it’s also pretty extensive (and a tad confusing). This means you might not be taking full advantage of it. But fear not. Click here to for more detailed information about all of Charlotte’s greenways! Our own Michelle Campos, along with a dedicated group of fellow members at River Run Country Club, hosted a special fund raiser for the Davidson Fire Department. The department was in need of a specialized gear washer to help clean and reduce the build-up of toxic residue on the equipment our firefighters wear every day. With the help of the Davidson community, over $30,000 was raised. More than enough to cover the cost of the gear washer! It was a huge pleasure to work towards such a great cause, which has a direct impact on our community.
Read MoreAfter a Long Wait, Hello Sailor is Ready to Shove Off
Lake Norman residents have been anxiously awaiting the opening of Hello, Sailor. Replacing the longtime lakeside staple, The Rusty Rudder, the new restaurant project by the creators of Kindred has been the talk of the lake all year. Promising to deliver “a modern play on a fish camp that still focuses on ‘chef-driven dishes’”, chef/owner Joe Kindred brings their now well-known brand of culinary firepower to a lakeside locale where fried shrimp baskets and burgers were the norm. Hello, Sailor dropped its anchor this week, conveniently located just off of exit 28 in Cornelius. It’s minutes from Huntersville and Davidson, and just a 15min drive from Mooresville and Denver. Lakeside commercial real estate around Lake Norman is extremely scarce, so the arrival of a new eatery of Kindred caliber is a rare and unique opportunity that should not be missed!
